The theme of the #11 edition of Romanian Design Week is CONNECTIONS. This year, the festival will bring back the open call exhibition format, addressed to all local architects and designers, who in the last two years have realized projects that are worth sharing with the public at large.
The relaunch of the format comes with a set of structural changes aimed at increasing the relevance of the call and of the exhibition for local creative industries.
The open call is continuing the festival's mission to promote professionals from creative industries by providing a context in which to present their projects to their peers and to the general public. The open call has two main objectives: to gather a selection pool for the RDW2023 exhibition and to launch an online archive of good practice in design and architecture, which encourages quality work, helps to raise market standards and can be taken as a benchmark for years to follow. Thus, the online collection of projects will become an important tool in promoting good practices throughout the year, not just during the 10 days of festival.
Our goal is to make the approach as relevant as possible and encourage recognition from lead creatives and peers. Therefore, we invite you to choose together the projects that deserve to be showcased. #rdwcommunity
Romanian Design Week is inviting the participants of the last open call edition of the exhibition (2021 edition) to vote for the entries that deserve recognition. Among them, a series of curators in each field (architecture, interior design, fashion, graphic design, illustration, product design) will make the selection for this year’s exhibition. The projects that deserve to be applauded, but did not make the exhibition, will be presented digitally on romaniandesignweek.ro as examples of good practices and can be consulted throughout the year.
The intention of this whole endeavor is to collect and promote as many examples of good projects as possible, to connect as many designers and architects validated by their own guilds as possible with the general public, and to raise together the golden standard of local projects.
The structural changes, in short:
Through the open call for projects, Romanian Design Week is aiming to: a. collect a wide selection pool for the exhibition in May 2023, and b. build an online collection of best practices consisting of entries voted by the representatives of the local guilds, former participants to RDW #rdwcommunity
The projects voted by the guilds will be promoted throughout the year on romaniandesignweek.ro and through the online channels of Romanian Design Week and The Institute.
A series of curators will make a selection for the physical exhibition of the 2023 edition (May 12th – 21st) from amongst the projects voted by #rdwcommunity (by the representatives of the guilds). The curators will change every year to give a fresh perspective from one edition to the next.
