“From Craft to Music” is an exhibition dedicated to the art of Romanian lutherie, inviting visitors to discover the intricate process behind the creation of handcrafted string instruments made from locally sourced tonewood. The display features both finished instruments and components in various stages of production, offering a detailed glimpse into the complexity of this refined craft.
Visitors will explore materials such as resonance spruce and flamed maple from the Reghin region—renowned for their exceptional acoustic properties—and witness how these natural elements are transformed with care and passion into musical instruments of remarkable finesse. The exhibition is a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and the sound born from wood and devotion.
Founded in 1990, the Romanian Lutherie Association is committed to supporting and promoting excellence in Romanian string instrument making. Continuing a centuries-old tradition rooted in Reghin, the association’s members build instruments that are internationally recognized for their quality and refined sound.
Working exclusively with carefully selected local wood known for its acoustic resonance, Romanian luthiers preserve a craft passed down through generations, blending traditional techniques with the demands of contemporary classical and modern music. The association also serves as a professional community where makers share knowledge, values, and a deep respect for both craftsmanship and music.
The exhibition "From Craft to Music" is part of the RDW Exhibitions format, presented by Rompetrol and co-produced by the Bucharest City Hall through ARCUB.
