During May 14-22, 10 Romanian designers exhibit in the heritage ensemble: the public will be able to discover the interior of the Ion I.C. Bratianu Settlements and will be able to enjoy the RDW program in I.C. Bratianu Park
Romanian Design Week, the largest multidisciplinary festival dedicated to creative industries, with the support of OAR Bucharest, the Romanian National Library and ExpoArte, reopens for the general public the Ion I.C. Bratianu Settelements. Between May 14 and 22, the ensemble, considered one of the most appreciated examples of neo-Romanian architecture in Bucharest, becomes Design House, and the public is invited to discover a novel concept: every day, the space will be reconfigured and will host another personal exhibition signed by a Romanian designer, in the area of product design, graphic design or fashion design. At the same time, during the 9 days of the festival, visitors will be able to personally meet the designers who will be present on the day dedicated to their exhibition.
In the exhibition rooms on the ground floor of the heritage ensemble, capsule exhibitions of product design, fashion design, graphic design will be hosted daily.
In addition, visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the history of the heritage building and Bratianu family, as well as with the history of the area around Dacia Boulevard, through special interventions during the exhibition route.
The program also includes guided tours from the series of the already emblematic ones carried out by ARCEN, whose purpose is to explore, by walking, the Calea Victoriei – Dacia Boulevard area and the adjacent streets, a route that will end at Ion I. C. Bratianu settlements, to point out the history of the building, which recently turned a century since the first brick laid, and the history of Bratianu Family members. The tours will take place on the weekends of May 14-15 and 21-22 and will be accessible to the general public.
Romanian Design Week opens, during the 9 days of the festival, not only the interior of the Ion I.C. Bratianu Settlements, but seeks to integrate into the experience of the inhabitants of Bucharest also the I.C. Bratianu Park, towards which the heritage ensemble is open. Designed by Bratianu family members at the beginning of the XXth century as a Library garden and reading space, the park transforms during the RDW into a space that today resumes its original mission and accommodates the recreational and socialization needs of the public, under the signature of the Design Festival. Access to Design House: Ion I.C. Bratianu Settelements will be through no. 10 Dacia Boulevard.
The action to reopen the House involves the participation of several local professionals. Contributors include the Attila Kim Architects team, the ARCEN team and designer Dilmana Yordanova.
Design House: Ion I.C. Bratianu Settlements is organized by Romanian Design Week with the support of OAR Bucharest, the Romanian National Library and ExpoArte, and is part of Romanian Design Week, the largest multidisciplinary festival dedicated to creative industries.
During the editions of RDW so far, other iconic buildings and spaces have been reinvented or put back into the urban circuit, becoming scenes for today's creators, hosting large design and architecture exhibitions: Stirbei Palace, Bucharest Chamber of Commerce Palace, Gabroveni Inn, Amzei Square, Cobalcescu Garages, Telephone Palace, Oscar Maugsch Palace and Combinatul Fondului Plastic.
The RDW 2022 experience means the most interesting Romanian design works, the most creative activations, the largest Romanian design concept store and the largest urban festival of local creativity. Visitors can enjoy the creativity of Romanian designers both at Design House and by visiting Combinatul Fondului Plastic, for the third consecutive time the central point of the festival, already a landmark destination and the main stage of Romanian design.
