Romanian Design Week, a project by The Institute and UniCredit Bank, proposes the theme CONNECTIONS for the 2023 edition, in an attempt to generate opportunities for dialogue and creative cross-contamination and from the desire to encourage interdisciplinary and collaborative projects.

The 11th edition of the festival is bringing back the open call format for the main exhibition, which will be curated under the theme CONNECTIONS. The open call is aimed at all local architects and designers, who in the last two years have realised projects that they are proud of and think are worth sharing with the general public. They can submit projects in any of the following categories: Architecture, Interior Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration and Product Design, by filling out the entry form until November 25, 2022. The return of the open call format comes with a set of structural changes aimed at increasing the relevance of the call and of the exhibition for representatives of local creative industries.

During the past 10 years, Romanian Design Week has become the most complex event dedicated to the creative-cultural industries in Romania. The 2023 edition aims to identify and analyse the processes that generate innovation and give birth to truly remarkable projects. The main goal is to create the contexts and pretexts necessary to encourage and promote creative projects, revolving around concerns related to creative communities and their role in the development of cities, with a focus on multidisciplinarity, collaboration and dialogue.

Thus, the festival proposes the largest program of satellite events so far, this time developed around some neighbourhoods and historical areas of Bucharest, as well as a series of related events in public spaces, but also in other cities in the country.

RDW 2023 will also develop a series of new formats, in collaboration with other organisations concerned with the development of local creative industries, with the aim of encouraging collaboration, but also the consumption of Romanian design.

The theme of the edition will thus be reflected in the architecture of the festival and in the concepts of the new formats developed this year, which will focus on: the connections between various local creative industries, the synergies between cultural operators, creative communities and their role in the cities they come from, and connecting the general public with local architecture and design projects.

CONNECTIONS start from the premise that in a changing world, where networks are becoming more and more complex, population density is increasing, communication channels are constantly changing, and challenges related to expression are constantly diversifying, concerns about manner in that we connect with each other, but especially the themes related to communities and dialogue spaces are becoming more and more complex and important, and design is becoming an increasingly valuable tool to address and/or solve them.
