The tenth edition turned Bucharest into an oasis of creativity, which offered experiences, exhibitions and events for all tastes and for all ages. 35,000 people enjoyed what the festival had to offer for ten days.
Combinatul Fondului Plastic, the epicentre of RDW, contained a series of unique exhibitions, installations and activities appreciated and discovered by approximately 10,000 design lovers.
Building the Future. Together. was a manifesto exhibition developed in partnership with Nod Makerspace, which included 6 interactive and immersive installations, part of the New European Bauhaus program. The Valuable Objects exhibition, curated by architect Adela Maria Marius, founder of the Epretext gallery; the exhibition ZOOM IN: SUSTAINABLE DESIGN, an OTOTO initiative, part of the brand’s program SLOW FORWARD. A MANIFESTO FOR A MINDFUL, SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE; the staple collection of Câlția • Glăvan, in an exhibition concept created by Cristiana Raluca Drăghici; the interactive installation Explorers of the Multiverse, made by the art and technology studio H3 in partnership with IQOS; the exhibition AȘKIA Young Designers Awards (AYDA), which brought to the fore the winners of the annual product design contest launched by AȘKIA; the exhibition Handle with care: graphic memories from plants and factories, part of Corvin Cristian's personal collection; and two international exhibitions in the program Design Flags: Smart Hungary, brought to Bucharest by the Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center Bucharest and the on-site installation made by the Czech studio Hermann & Coufal, with the support of the Czech Center in Bucharest.
Under the theme #FORWARD, the anniversary edition of Romanian Design Week invited participants to take a step forward and consume products created by Romanian artists. Thus, at Combinatul Fondului Plastic, in the Senat Gallery, the biggest concept store dedicated to Romanian creatives was hosted, where visitors admired the selection and purchased products worth over 50,000 euros.
Alongside design exhibitions, visitors enjoyed immersive experiences offered by interactive installations and had the opportunity to experience the program RDW Social, with various open air activities, relaxing in the food & drinks area.
The Ion I.C. Brătianu Settlements attracted 5,000 visitors. The building, considered one of the most valuable examples of neo-Romanian architecture in Bucharest, was temporarily restored to the public circuit through the joint efforts of Romanian Design Week, OAR Bucharest, the National Library of Romania and ARCEN. During RDW, the location took the name Design House and hosted a new exhibition every day - signed by one of the 10 most prominent designers of
100 satellite events took place during the 10 days of the festival, offering the public a different perspective on the city and involving local communities in the creation of this unique journey.
From the Night of Architecture Studios, an original RDW format, an evening in which dozens of offices opened their doors to the public to present their team and projects in an informal and relaxed setting, with music and cocktails, to the Bazar in Cotroceni, a weekend in which the residents of the neighborhood opened their yards and put clothes, sweets or vinyls on sale, with a record participation of the locals, Romanian Design Week offer was rich and varied.
