Together with Qreator by IQOS, we were going to launch a new events category during this year's edition of Romanian Design Week. It is called DESIGN FLAGS, a series of seven exhibitions that document the evolution of design from international cultural perspectives, which would have been hosted by Qreator by IQOS space.
Because, at the moment, the safest thing for all of us is to #stayhome, but also because we thought of sharing with you the content of these exhibitions, we decided to exhibit these international projects online.
Presented with the help of the Spanish Embassy in Bucharest, the Hungarian Institute in Bucharest, the Czech Centre, Designmuseum Danmark, CHART, NextNature and KWY.studio, the seven exhibitions investigate new approaches and concerns in design and present innovative ideas and products that manage to redefine the sphere of which they are part.
The first exhibition we’re presenting, Made in CZ / Found in RO, wears the signature of the Czech Centre and showcases representative objects for the Czech design.
It presents objects of Czechoslovak and Czech origin for everyday use, that were imported in contemporary Romania in the last 100 years. The exhibition is an example of the commercial relations between the two countries, but also a measurement instrument of the popularity of Czechoslovak products in the East European area. The objects are also offering a clear image upon the local object design industry.
The visitor is going to recognise some familiar objects, due to the fact that they are part of the collective memory of Romanian people in their original form or because they served as inspiration for some household items produced later.
Using the home as the main space of presentation, the products can be placed in 6 main sections that remind us of each room you can find them in: the bathroom, the kitchen, workspace, living room, office or leisure. You can find each object in the specific space, from appliances to furniture, tools, chemical or decorative objects.
The Made in CZ / Found in RO exhibition can be viewed from different perspectives – as an observation upon the evolution of the Czech product design or a statement on the friendship between Romania and the Czech Republic over time or as a piece of recent history. It is sure that the public will find familiar elements in the showcased objects, connecting it through its own memories.

The Czech Centre is a cultural institute whose events and programs aim not only to familiarize the Romanian audience with the Czech society and culture, but also to offer a set of projects that reflect educational, artistic and social values in Bucharest and the rest of the country. They achieve this by connecting the Romanian public to quality cultural content in an indie, open context.
