Together with Qreator by IQOS, we were going to launch a new events category during this year's edition of Romanian Design Week. It is called DESIGN FLAGS, a series of seven exhibitions that document the evolution of design from international cultural perspectives, which would have been hosted by Qreator by IQOS space.

Because, at the moment, the safest thing for all of us is to #stayhome, but also because we thought of sharing with you the content of these exhibitions, we decided to exhibit these international projects online.

Presented with the help of the Spanish Embassy in Bucharest, the Hungarian Institute in Bucharest, the Czech Centre, Designmuseum Danmark, CHART, Next Nature and KWY.studio, the seven exhibitions investigate new approaches and concerns in design, and present innovative ideas and products that manage to redefine the sphere of which they are part.

We are talking today about the Magyar Plakát Társaság exhibition, a selection of the most representative works of the Hungarian Poster Association, organised with the help of the Hungarian Institute in Bucharest (Balassi Institute).

The Hungarian Poster Association was founded in 2004 by a group of friends, all of them visual artists and well-known graphic designers. Even from the start, the association aimed to highlight the importance of posters as the most lively artistic genre of the 20th century, but also to continue the traditions of the visual world, found in a permanent change and to keep and cultivate the esthetic values and norms of the genre.

At present the association has 40 active members, all of them internationally awarded, who are making the Hungarian poster known in the whole world through their work. Furthermore, the association succeeded in gathering and training a new generation of poster graphic artists and who, thanks to the new creative technologies, is representing the Hungarian poster internationally.

The association has held more than 50 personal or group exhibitions so far, and in 2016 founded PosterFest, the international posters biennial, an event that presents the work of Hungarian and international graphic artists. The festival aims to create a dialogue platform of the poster genre nowadays, where not only the artists, but also institutions responsible with keeping traditions, are able to participate in honoring the poster genre. More than 1500 artists from all over the world responded to the festival call, which proves the importance of the genre, but also their interest in attending such events.

In times of social distancing and ”#stayhome, the artists continue to be active on forums and online platforms, but also on social media. They strongly believe that these difficult times are going to make graphic artists more sensitive to the social problems we will be facing in the future. It is more likely that, in the near future, more social posters - made voluntarily or on demand - will appear, thus making the social poster genre a trendsetter in the visual arts movement.
